The Foundation class is the perfect introduction to Iyengar Yoga and will include basic standing poses, gentle twists, forward bends and supported back bends. The General class will include variations as we move deeper into poses and inversions are introduced.

As the class size is small, I am able to tailor the class to the needs of the students so please let me know if you have any injuries or health conditions.

New to Iyengar Yoga?

Iyengar Yoga is a discipline of yoga following the teachings of BKS Iyengar (1918-2014) and his interpretation of Patanjalis yoga sutras. There is a strong focus on alignment, timing and sequencing, and the use of props provide a way for new students to experience the benefits of a pose safely and more experienced students a way to move deeper into postures. Iyengar Yoga has been described as a practice for everybody and a practice that supports people at all stages of life.
There are enormous physical and mental health benefits in the regular practice of Iyengar Yoga, including building strength and stamina, improving mobility and flexibility, and energising the systems of the body whilst improving mental and emotional wellbeing.

9 Karu Street, Oneroa.

Karu Street is a narrow cul-de-sac with limited parking on the street and some limited parking in our driveway. Walk up the fenceline to the right of the house and you will see the studio.

Hello! My name is Vanessa and I have been practicing Iyengar Yoga for 20 years- and am incredibly grateful for the tools that it has provided me with as I navigated my way through the early years of motherhood and a demanding career.

In 2018 I started teacher training with senior teacher Melodie Batchelor and gained my Level 1 certification in 2020. Since then I have been teaching part-time at Herne Bay Yoga and at my home studio here on Waiheke. Teacher development is an ongoing process in the Iyengar system and I attend regular teacher training with Melodie and other senior teachers throughout the year. I also attend workshops and events and last year was fortunate enough to travel to Pune, India to study at the Ramamani Memorial Institute with the Iyengar family.

The subject of yoga is an endless fascination to me, and as the layers of yoga quietly reveal themselves I know how privileged I am to be able to share it with others.
